Engraved boards & coasters

Kitchen pieces get washed, cut on and left out, so the mark has to be part of the material. On bamboo and oak the laser burns a warm mid-brown into the surface; on slate it engraves a chalk white that is the strongest contrast of anything we work with.

Slate is riven — split along its natural bed rather than sawn — so no two pieces share an edge or a thickness. That is the point of it, but it does mean a set of four will not be identical. Anyone wanting machine-cut uniformity should choose acrylic or bamboo instead.
